A trial is a great day out for a dog waiting in a shelter: new smells, a job to do, and a whole crowd cheering them on. It's also a chance for people to see that dog at their best. That's why Happy Ratters sponsors an HR number for any shelter or rescue dog a volunteer, staff member, or club member wants to bring to a trial.
Under the shelter's own account, which is free. That's where the number gets attached, so this part comes first.
Set the dog up on Secreterrier
Shelter staff or a Happy Ratters club member fills in a short form: who you are, the shelter, and the dog, with a photo and a few words about them so we can feature them here.
Request a sponsored HR numberWe pass the details to Secreterrier, they issue the number, and we email you. Then it's off to a trial for a day of ratting.

Update: Libbey found a home! Libbey was adopted by Jane on , and here they are together at home.
A big thank-you to Nancy and everyone at Dogs and Cats Forever for caring for Libbey through her five months there, and to Mary Ann and Emily for bringing her out to her first trial. There are plenty more dogs at the shelter still waiting for a home of their own.
Hi! I am 9 years old and a terrier mix. I am a good girl, but I am a little older and most humans want a younger dog and overlook me. I found myself at Dogs and Cats Forever in Fort Pierce, Florida, through no fault of my own! I have been in this place for a long time (5 months) and would love to have a furever home and a human of my own!
One day a nice lady named Mary Ann was visiting the shelter. Nancy (she is the boss of this place) told Mary Ann what a good girl I am. Mary Ann has gotten involved in a thing called Happy Ratters. All I know about it is that I get to hunt rats, and that is so much fun! Mary Ann talked to a nice lady named Jean, who sponsored me with my own Happy Ratters number! Mary Ann and her friend Emily, along with Nancy, entered me in my first trial in Fort Pierce on September 12–13, 2026. I got to play and hunt rats. They tell me I did such a good job. I got a lot of ribbons and some big pretty rosettes! I was just doing what I do best: using my nose. Nancy, Mary Ann, and Emily were so proud of me. I had a lot of stories to tell my friends back at Dogs and Cats Forever.
I got to see Mary Ann and Emily again the next weekend, because they were helping at the shelter with a festival about responsible dog ownership. A nice lady was telling Mary Ann a sad story. She came to Dogs and Cats Forever to visit with all of us because she had just lost her doggie of 16 years, Lizzie. Mary Ann told her to wait, I have someone for you to meet, and her name is Libbey! The lady was really crying now, since our names are so much alike! The lady and I took a long walk, and I am told she might come back for me! Wouldn't that be great?
